Ces portraits de criminels viennent des archives de la police de Sydney.
Le policier-photographe qui les a pris dans les années 20 devait avoir un grand sens artistique, même en ignorant le contexte chaque photo est superbe.
Ces portraits sont regroupés dans un livre intitulé « City of Shadows: Sydney Police Photographs 1912-1948

Typique d’une personne qui pet plus haut que son cul, avant d’affirmer ce que tu dis montre les aprés en parlera, pour le moment ce sont CES photos qui font que certaines personnes les apprécies et à leur juste valeur.

The early wet plate process produced amazing quality but was laborious to produce.
Why are they all wearing formal wear? It seems as though they were dressed up specifically for the photos. Either that or they were all arrested during a ball.
It’s not formal, that’s just how people used to dress.

Photos des Grands! Sean – it was the 1920s, everyone dressed well all the time. I agree that some of the women look dressed up, perhaps they were ladies of the night and working the night spots? Guess it depends on what their crimes were…
Brilliant – works of art. Oddly enough two of these pictures are of the same person.
« Eugene Falleni, who was sentenced to death for murder in 1920. Falleni had posed as a man, and had met a woman named Annie Birkett and persuaded her to marry her. For months they lived together, and so perfect was her masquerade that Falleni’s true sex was never suspected. The couple lived quite happily together; and Falleni appeared to be a hard-working and industrious man. Falleni took her unsuspecting victim to Chatswood and in some thick scrub murdered her. The crime was discovered, and she was sentenced to death. Later the death sentence was commuted to imprisonment for life »

J’ai vu quelques unes de ces photos en décembre dernier à Geralton, sur la côte ouest australienne pour une expo sur les femmes criminelles. C’est intéressant d’avoir un partie du vécu de ces personnes lorsque l’on regarde leurs portraits.
