Naira Shulaia

Chakva, GEORGIA, 2010 – Naira Shulaia (51) in the room which she shares with her son. Far away from civilization (outside Batumi), a magnificent old building provides apartments to refugees from Abkhazia. The building is in total disrepair. It is estimated that some 250,000 ethnic Georgians have fled during the Georgian – Abkhazian war in 1992 – 93. They often stay in miserable conditions in old hotels or former student buildings.
